****The View from Here Photo Challenge is on indefinite hiatus...****
Welcome to The View from Here Photo Challenge. This project was started by a couple of American expatriates living in China who want to improve our photography skills. It is a fun project and an opportunity to show each other these places in which we live: our homes, our lives, our loves, and our moments. The point is to have fun, to inspire creativity, to motivate practice, and to take photos
What this challenge is not: Its not about critique or technique. Its not about what camera you have or how long you have been taking photos. Its just about sharing what you see, and how you see it, from where you are. If you're an expat living overseas, please join us. If you're living in the places we expats remember fondly as "home", please join us. Share with us your unique view of your "here."
Who can participate?
Anyone who likes to take photographs can participate.
How do I participate?
Visit www.gogovivi.com each Friday to get the week's theme. Think about the theme a little (but don't over-think it!), then go out and shoot some photos. Post your photos to your blog, to your Flickr, even to your Facebook, then return to Gogovivi to link up using the Linky tool.
How do I link up from my blog?
Post your photo in a blog entry and copy the URL of that entry (not your blog's main URL). Then click the Linky and follow the instructions.
Also besure to insert a clickable link to The View from Here in the body of the post. You can also insert "The View from Here" button, by copying and pasting the following code into the body of your post:
<center><a href="http://www.gogovivi.com/"><img border="0" src="http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a410/theviewfromhereblog/th_theviewfromhere150.jpg"/></a></center>
How do I link up from Flickr?
If you don't have a blog, you can use your Flickr account to link up. Copy and paste the URL of the photo's Flickr page into the Linky tool and follow the instructions. In the photo description box on your Flickr page, copy and paste the following code:
<a href="http://www.gogovivi.com/the-view-from-here/" rel="nofollow">The View from Here</a>
How do I link up from Facebook?
Add your photo to a Facebook photo album. In the text box below the photo, add your descriptive text. Also add a link to the photo challenge by typing in the URL of the photo challenge: http://www.gogovivi.com/the-view-from-here/.
Next, copy and paste the URL from the bottom of the photo page. The URL is right below the tiny little notice that reads: " Share this photo with anyone by sending them this public link." Use this URL in the Linky tool. Again, link directly to the shot you are submitting.
How do I insert the image link into my blog post?
Highlight all the HTML code in the text box below (be sure to scroll as your highlight to get all the code), then copy into your post. On a Mac: Command-c to copy, command-v to paste into your post. On a PC: ctrl-c to copy, ctrl-v to paste.
What kind of camera do I need?
Any kind of camera will do. Point and shoot cameras are perfect, as are iPhones. DSLRs and even film cameras will also work. Anything goes because its not about the gear you use, its about what you see and how you see it.
Can I post old photos or do I need to shoot new photos each week?
The photo challenge is intended to encourage and motivate practice with a particular theme in mind. However, its up to you. If you have the perfect photo in your archive, you can post it. If you simply can't get out an shoot a photo for the week, by all means, use a photo from your archive. Otherwise, try to shoot new photos each week.
Other ways to help make this photo challenge a success:
- This is a collective effort! Please visit other participants posts and leave comments. Its all about feedback and encouragement. Love to get it, love to leave it.
- The earlier you link up, the more views your photo will receive, so link up early!
- The Linky will be active for one week.
- This almost goes without saying, but only use your own photos.
